May 11, 2011: Re-organizing and re-vitalizing: Organizational Meet-Up for Food Not Bombs Las Vegas, Saturday, May 14, 2011

So, it’s been a while since we were on the ball about organizational meetings or updating the website. Food Not Bombs is still going in the Vegas Valley, but it is time for some reorganizing and revitalizing. So. Interested in getting involved in Food Not Bombs Las Vegas? Been involved in the past and want to get back into the swing of things? Never heard of Food Not Bombs before, but want to find out more about a free, vegan community picnics, and mutual aid and direct action against hunger in Las Vegas? Come on down for our resumed and reorganizing organizational meet-up this Saturday, May 14, at 2:00pm. The meeting will last for no more than 1 hour (although people are often happy to hang out and chat after the meeting is over). We’ll be meeting up at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at Running Rebel Plaza (4550 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas); look for the table with the Food Not Bombs banner.

  • WHAT: Next Food Not Bombs Las Vegas organizational meeting.
  • WHEN: Saturday, May 14, 2011, 2-3pm.
  • WHERE: Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Running Rebel Plaza (4550 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas)
  • WHO: Anyone who wants to get involved with FNB in Las Vegas!
  • QUESTIONS? E-mail, phone or text Charles Johnson (734-262-2129).

At meetings we share news about upcoming events and opportunities, talk about the organization with any folks who are new to FNB, do hands-on organizing work for upcoming Food Not Bombs events, work up a consensus on what to do over the course of the next week, and report back to the group on how things have been going with the projects we’ve taken on. This Saturday in particular, we’ll be talking about re-organizing and re-vitalizing — in particular, getting more organizers involved on every front, reviving some past events (the Saturday meetings and the Wednesday community picnics) that have fallen by the wayside, securing a stronger base of food donations and coordinating outreach table opportunities at First Friday, music shows, and other community events. The meeting is open to everyone, and if you support Food Not Bombs Las Vegas but haven’t known what to do to get involved, this is a perfect change to get in touch.

We’ll be talking about a lot of ways to get involved, especially for people who are interested in getting involved with: (1) coordinating the Food Not Bombs website, (2) announcing Food Not Bombs events (regular meals, org meetings, and special outreach events) through e-mail and social networks, (3) responding to phone and e-mail contacts from people interested in volunteering or donating to Food Not Bombs, (4) putting together outreach tabling events, (5) putting on and promoting food donation drives, (6) contacting local businesses, farmer’s markets, community gardens and other food sources about donating to Food Not Bombs. If you think you might be able to take up any of these things, come on down and let’s talk about it, (7) hosting community potlucks and picnics near your own neighborhood. If you’re interested but you know you can’t make the meeting, please contact Charles Johnson by e-mail, or by phone or text at (734) 262-2129 to talk about the opportunities we’ll discuss at the meeting. (We’ll also be sure to post a report-back to let you know how the meeting went and what we discussed there.)

See you at the Coffee Bean!

Nov 20, 2009: FNBLV Organizational Meet-Up this Saturday at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

Just a quick reminder: Food Not Bombs Las Vegas will be meeting up for our weekly organizational meet-up at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf this Saturday, November 21, at our regular meeting time of 2:00pm.

We usually meet up in the back meeting room, with Food Not Bombs literature set out at our table to help us find each other. At the meetings we share news about upcoming events and opportunities, do organizing work for upcoming Food Not Bombs events, parcel out new stores that each of us will contact about setting up donations, and report back to the group on how things have been going since the last meeting with the stores we contacted and the other Food Not Bombs projects that we’ve taken on.

This Saturday, we’ll be talking about our outreach events coming up next week, discussing possible outreach tabling opportunities at music shows and other community events, and working on ongoing plans to open up our second weekly free picnic, planned to take place on Wednesdays at Alexander Villas Park in Las Vegas.
